«On December 29, 1875, at the prompter's benefit, Don Juan was on; the gathering was full, the audience was mostly festive, and therefore both the artists and the audience left the theater full of pleasant impressions. After some two hours, they heard that the theater was on fire... The fire continued for two days and only the walls of the theater and the House remained.»

I. Kupchinsky «Theater in Kursk»

Since that time, theater troupes have given performances first in the building of the city's military arena, adapting it for the theater, and then only in the Summer Garden.

10 years later, with donations from wealthy Kurians, a new winter theater was opened, rebuilt from a military arena, where the first performance, the operetta «Donna Juanita» by R. Heuberger, took place on December 1, 1886.
