In the 1930s, the prominent promoters of the Soviet drama in the Kursk Theatre were Lina Samborskaya, a well-known actress in the Kursk province, and Alexander Verkhovsky, the theatre director. They were both referred to as «living embodiments of the innovative spirit of the Soviet theatre».
From 1929 to 1931, Lina Samborskaya was the artistic director of the Kursk Theatre. Her acting talent was noted in Chekhov's play «The Cherry Garden» where she played Ranevskaya; in Schiller's play «Tudor» as Maria Tudor, and in O'Neill's play «Anna Christie» where she was starring as Anna.
From 1941 to 1948, Ms. Samborskaya was the director of the Omsk Regional Drama Theatre, where on October 8, 1945, she was awarded the title of «Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation».
