Year 1921 - The period of the early USSR

In 1921, the magazine «Culture of Art» appeared in Kursk and editor Ilya Strelsky writes:

«We need to fundamentally change the existing view of theater as entertainment or fun. Art and theater are one of the significant phenomena of life, the theater is not a place of fun, but a temple of science, but in order to instill such a view in the masses, it is necessary to give these masses the opportunity to visit the theater as often as possible»

On March 16, 1926, the premiere of A. Lunacharsky's play «Poison» staged by the main director V.V. Obraztsov took place at the Shchepkin Winter Theater.

The performance was watched by delegates of the XIII Provincial Congress of Soviets, before whom the author of the play spoke.
